Grande Tetons and Sawtooth Mountains

Our first look at the Tetons
from the north end of Jackson Lake

When we set up camp at Signal Mountain
there was a fire in the area creating an afternoon sunset

Down by the lake it was getting dark

A fantastic evening silhouette

and then a wonderful sunset

It was time for bed as we had an early morning ahead of us

Canadian Geese next to Mount Moran at daybreak

Oxbow Bend on the Snake River
It was cold in the early morning shade
Mount Moran is on the right

Cattleman's Bridge Area in the sunshine
A wonderful spot to have pancakes for breakfast

The Grand Tetons

An old scenic barn on Mormon Row

Jenny Lake

A view of the Tetons from amongst the sagebrush

Jackson Lake Resort
Sundown on the deck over looking Willow Flats
And The Grand Tetons in the distance

We were up early the next morning heading south

Spectacular Sunrise on the Tetons complete with a Rainbow

Being "early birds" we got the special panorama

Heading south we spotted another cow moose
When was I ever going to see a Big Bull with antlers

Visitor Centre at Moose Junction
It was a fantastic virtual tour of the whole park

and I got to see a Big Bull Moose...kinda

Elk Arch in Jackson Hole
Boy Scouts raise money from these naturally discarded horns

On our way east to the Sawtooth Mountains
These ranch lands required oversized tractors

low water level in this huge reservoir makes for a neat design

more wonderful fall colours

an osprey nest with mom and a little one

Downtown Idaho Falls

A long flat windy stretch...did I mention windy
The gusts were so strong I had to add rope to the
existing straps to secure the kayaks on top of the camper

At the end of the flatlands...thank god
 Craters of the Moon Park

Tons of black lava rock

then back into lush farmland

The Sawtooth Mountains were in the distance
with only one more valley to cross

Finally the Sawtooth Range from Little Redfish Lake

Redfish Lake Lodge

Parts of the lake were quiet while others were busy

we chose a quiet walk beside this old snake fence to the lake

now thats a great fire pit for everyone

RedFish Lake

Winding road going into Stanley Lake

It was a gorgeous lake with the mountains right above us

A classy sign at the start of a wonderful walk

we followed a beautiful little creek

there were several spots to dip our feet in the cold water

Rudy had a riot running everywhere
It was hard to keep him still for this picture

Arlene got some great shots

It would be nice to come back to Stanley Lake
and spend more time exploring this area

It was time to head for the coast and
say goodbye to the Sawtooth area in Idaho

On to the Redwoods and the Coast
